Trending This Week...X-Men: Apocalypse!

The X-Men are back and this time, one of the most highly anticipated movies of the summer. In this third installment, Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and the doctors think that there’s a god coming back to Earth and was the first mutant/god which is Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). In 1 of the 3 trailers below, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) had a dream of seeing the world in great danger and Charles thinks at first that it just a dream.

Apocalypse was a god that took away mutants powers and wanted to destroy the world with 4 of his followers, Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Betsy Braddock/Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and a new follower.

However, Hank McCoy / Beast (Nicholas Hoult), and Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) try to figure out a new team of X-Men to be with them. They are Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean, and Peter / Quicksilver (Evan Peters). During the end of the trailer, the newbies had to take out the enemies without the professionals.

When Raven came in, she was surprised and Cyclops told her that they had help and saw 3 claws... Maybe in my prediction Wolverine is going to be back and help the X-Men defeat Apocalypse. Check out the last trailer here below!

In my opinion, I think that this movie might be a good one for the sequel because they are putting out new recruits for the team to beat Apocalypse, such as a young Storm, Jean Grey, and the show stopper from the last X-Men movie, Quicksilver! X-Men: Apocalypse opened this past Memorial Day weekend, but is still going strong! Make sure to go check it out soon!

P.S. Another movie that opened this past Memorial Day Weekend was Alice Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to Alice in Wondereland, starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, and more. Sadly, it flopped. Not surprised since it was up against the amazing X-Men: Apocalypse! Might be worth taking a small child too, though.

My Royal Caribbean Cruise!

I couldn’t stop thinking about my cruise as we drove to the boarding station in South Jersey. I had been waiting exactly 10 months for this and now it was finally happening. When we got there, I was surprised how fast it took us. I had thought boarding would take an hour but it really only took 5 minutes. All we did was check in and show them our passports. Then we were on the ship. The cruise was 9 days and we were going to four different places. First Bermuda, next Saint Martin, and then Puerto Rico, last Haiti.

When we got on the ship we went to our room to unpack and lay down for 30 minutes. Then we got up and went to a place called Wind Jammers to eat.

While we were eating we looked over the schedule. And for the rest of the day we looked around the ship. But the thing that caught my eye was an Xbox center. When night came we went to a teen club till 1 o’clock in the morning! We did this almost every night.

The next day we just hung out on the boat or teen club. When the third day came we arrived at Bermuda.

We got an awesome taxi tour. The only down side was that it was rainy. The next day was a cruise day but also my first time going swimming on the cruise.

Then the next three days we were at stops in Saint Martin. We stayed at the beach all day. But I got a sun burn.

We did most of our shopping in Puerto Rico. But my favorite stop was Haiti because the cruise line owned part of the island. There was a beach, zip lining, and a rollercoaster so I had a good time there.

The last two days of the cruise we just relaxed and spent family time together. This cruise was a once in a lifetime experience that I will not soon forget!

NBA: Can You Feel the Thunder?

Things are shaking up in both the Eastern and Western Conference Finals, but where will the dust finally settle? In the Eastern Conference. the Cavaliers were dominating. But it's the Western Conference that has everyone talking. For the last two seasons, the Golden State Warriors had been taking the NBA by storm, an obvious favorite. However, in a huge upset, Oklahoma City Thunder destroyed the Warriors in an amazing Game 3 victory!

There is no doubt that the Warriors have a magical way of playing basketball, perfect jumpers, tons of ball movement, and lots of teamwork. However, the Warriors have finally met an opponent maybe even more intimidating than themselves. The players that make up Thunder are bigger, stronger, and faster and some are saying it has the Warriors scared! Who can blame them when the final score of Day 3 was 133 (OCT) - 105 (GSW)!

Do the Cavaliers have a shot? Can the Warriors pick up the broken pieces? Or is the rumble of Thunder just too loud? I guess we will have to wait and watch to find out!

Could "Phantom of the Opera" Be Coming to Clayton Middle / High School In the Near Future?

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" is one of the most famous broadway musicals of all time. Deformed since birth, a bitter man known only as the Phantom lives in the sewers underneath the Paris Opera House. He falls in love with the chorus singer Christine, and privately tutors her while terrorizing the rest of the opera house and demanding Christine be given lead roles. Things get worse when Christine meets back up with her childhood acquaintance Raoul and the two fall in love. The Phantom decides to kidnap her and imprison her with him in his lair. Raoul is now the only one who can stop him. Or is he? (summary found at imdb.com)

Phantom may be one of the most popular broadway shows, but rarely do we see a middle school / high school production of it. Until now. In April of this year, only 25 minutes from Clayton Middle / High School, a production of "Phantom of the Opera" was performed at Millville High School for the first time. "The production features a custom made chandelier and the talented vocals of seniors Joshua Sheppard and Samantha Price as the Phantom and Christine, along with juniors Phillip Ballas and Lindsay Abbott as Raoul and Carlotta. The production is directed by Robert DeSantis." (Community Bulletin, NJ.com).

A few days from now (May 12-14) a production of Phantom will be performed at Oakton High School in Virginia. "It's such an iconic, famous piece of musical theater, and I'm still surprised how many people have never seen it, so this is an opportunity to finally put physicality to the famous musical score," said theater director Vanessa Gelinas. The Oakton High School production will have 75 students in the cast and crew! (Steve Hibbard, Connection Newspaper.com)

Since more schools are taking on the famous musical, could it be possible that we could see "Phantom of the Opera" here at Clayton Middle / High School? Fingers crossed!

World Cultures: School for Enslaved Children in Pakistan Named After Boy Martyr Who Rescued Thousands From Bonded Labor

Imagine being 5 years old and sold for less than $7 into child slavery. Instead of starting school like most children that age, you must work at a carpet factory for long hours and not much food. This was the life of Iqbal Masih, just 4 years old when he was forced into bonded labor after his mother couldn't pay off a loan she took out to pay for her older son's wedding. Masih worked 14 hour days for six days a week, but was never even close to paying off his mom's loan.

Iqbal escaped at the age of 10 with friends and went to the police with plenty of evidence that they were abused and beaten. The police, however, returned Masih and his friends to the master for payment. Masih was later helped out and received a formal education. Masih began speaking out against abuses and injustice of bonded labor and went to factories to encourage other children to leave because new laws banned bonded labor and other forms of slavery.

Masih also spoke out against bonded labor in other countries throughout the world. He even gave a speech to the United Nations General Assembly when he was just 12 years old. Sadly, he was shot and killed just weeks before he was to begin studying for a law degree at Brandeis University in Boston in 1995.

School for Enslaved Children in Pakistan Named After Boy Martyr Who Rescued Thousands From Bonded Labor

Iqbal was such a huge inspiration to children around the world that a new school will soon be named in his honor. A human rights charity will open a free primary school in a poor area of Pakistan that aims to give children an education instead of working as bonded laborers and a chance to break free from their family's cycle of poverty.

"We chose to name our school after Tim Iqbal Masih as his short life has been an inspiration to our group. His commitment to save others and in so doing sacrificing his own life is a message to us all," BPCA Chairman Wilson Chowdhry said in a statement. "Freedom from oppressors will always come at a cost and so often martyrs are forgotten. We wanted his desire to emancipate other victims to be be remembered, that it might cement a place for acceptance of the beleaguered Christian minority in Pakistan and inspire generations of humanitarians yet to come." Trending This Week...Captain America: Civil War!!!

In the new movie, Captain America: Civil War, Captain America (Chris Evans) visits an old friend, Bucky (Sebastian Stan) and warns him that he’s not going to be alive after the FBI finds him.

However, Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are on his side to try and save him. But only one obstacle is holding him back: Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and his team Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), War Machine (Don Cheadle), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland).

Based on several different trailers that have been released, here are my thoughts on what we can possibly expect from the new Captain America movie. During one of the trailers, it looks like Spider-Man is going to make an appearance! We see him using his spidey web to take Captain America's shield and to say, "Hi, everyone!" If you look closely, (see below trailer, at the very end) his suit is has a new look compared to previous Spider-Man movies and new and the eyes of his mask move!

Captain America’s team watches a video about the cities being destroyed and Black Widow sees it. I’m guessing that Black Widow will betray Captain America. This movie might be the summer blockbuster of the season! Check out the second trailer below!

So what do you think? Captain America: Civil War hits theaters, May 6th, but since it is a school night, most of us kids will be catching it this Friday, May 9th, If you do go see it, let me know what you think! Leave your thoughts about the movie in the comments section below!
